UK Study Explores Cost-Effectiveness of Aricept

Is Aricept Cost Effective?: "A study in the June 26 Lancet confirms earlier data showing that donepezil (Aricept) modestly boosts average performance on tests of memory and thinking skills. Results also show for the first time that these effects persist for two years.
The study also finds that, in the United Kingdom, the cost of long-term treatment with donepezil (Aricept) is not offset by prevention of eventual disability or postponement of placement in a nursing home.
The lack of impact on nursing home admission and disability leads the authors to question whether the memory and thinking benefits justify the expense of treatment."
