Episode 13: Links
Tosk - Biotech company founded by Patrick Fogarty.
Radioactive Drugs
Personalized Cancer Vaccines
Radioactive Drugs
- A detailed article about Bexxar and Zevalin, the two radioimmunotherapy drugs that hotly competed for FDA approval and market share. Zevalin was approved first.
- (Note: Zevalin must be refrigerated, and has a shorter half life than Bexxar. Bexxar has two components that must be mixed: One refrigerated and one frozen until use. See this powerpoint for extensive info on the two drugs.)
- A nice chart comparing Bexxar and Zevalin.
- Zevalin seems to sell better than Bexxar. In the first quarter of 2004, Bexxar sales were $1.3 million according to Corixa. Zevalin sales were $16.7 million in the first 9 months of 2005. (Although Zevalin is easier to store, this is probably not the only reason it sells better.)
Personalized Cancer Vaccines
- A detailed 2001 story from the Stanford Magazine about Dr. Levy's lymphoma clinical trials.
- Genitope. A company working on personalized cancer vaccines.
- A story from the American Association for Cancer Research describing the promise and problems with personalized (autologous) cancer vaccines. (Note the focus on less personalized (allogenic) vaccines that will be more broadly applicable.)

THIS SEGMENT WAS WELL DONE. IT IS GOOD TO SEE HOW A SCIENTIFIC IDEA CAN EVOLVE INTO REAL BUSINESS OPPORTUNITES. IT WOULD BE HELPFUL TO HAVE FURTHER SEGMENTS ON HOW TO DEVLOP A BUSINESS IN THIS SECTOR OF THE MARKET.A COMMENT THAT STANDS OUT FROM THE DISUSSION WAS THAT NONE OF THE GENERAL BUSINESS PLANS REALLY SUITED THE BIOTECH AREA.

Excellent segment. A critical component to append to such discussions would be a reading list, other websites etc that a listener may access to obtain further or more detailed information. As a standard feature of appearing on your webcast, the speaker would thus be requested to provide a concise list of the most useful "references" to which an interested listener can turn for further information on the topic.
